Villy Doctor (Founder), Chairperson and Managing Trustee
Villy Doctor, a psychologist,educationist and therapist is the founder of Light of Life Trust.Her doctoral studies on ‘Psycho-biological changes through meditation’ showed her inclination towards the spiritual side while her master’s degree opened up various teaching opportunities for her. A lecturer at St. Xaviers College, her career path led her to being the head of the psychology department at Sophia College. During her tenure, she ran a counseling and vocational guidance cell that helped young people overcome substance abuse and emotional problems. Her interest in human nature led her to work in the fieldof consumer behavior that resulted in her launching Ormax Consultants, with her husband. Today, it ranks as one of the top three qualitative market research companies in India.
Villy Doctor has also founded Satyavati Spiritual Foundation, which teaches meditation through a scientific and systematic technique that helps people move towards good health and total wellbeing. Satya Meditation programs have been organised at anational and international level(Tata Institute for Fundamental Research, BARC, Infosys Technologies Ltd, Grey Worldwide, Google Inc. U.S.A. San Francisco, Nokia Inc Dubai and many more)and have benefitted thousands of people across the globe.
An energetic entrepreneur with excellent media and communication skills, she has been with the Trust since the very beginning. She has been instrumental in the development of High Street Phoenix, a high-end mall, which houses many internationally renowned fashion outlets. She is also a trustee of Aakar Charitable Trust, which promotes water conservation and water harvesting.
He is a leading businessman and Chairman of Special Projects – Rotary Club Bombay Sea Face. He has been involved in the adoption of villages affected by the Gujarat earthquake and raised funds for those affected by the devastating Asian tsunami. He is the Founder Member and Chief Managing Director of the Mehta Charitable Trust.
Sujal Shroff, Trustee
A real estate designer and developer, he specialisesin boutique, residential and corporate office developments. He is a member of the Management Committee of the Maharashtra Chamber of Housing, which is the leading developer body for Mumbai and the state. He is actively involved in our city’s urban planning
A successful entrepreneur, he heads B & K Securities Ltd. and comes from a long line of philanthropist.
Vali Merchant, Hon. Secretary
He was a faculty member at Burhani College of Commerce and Economics for seven years and is a practicing Chartered Accountant.
Jaya Ahuja,Hon. Director
A part of the Trust since the inception of Project Jagruti and Anando, she is responsible for the mobilisation of resources,global relationships, liaising with corporates,managing events and project operations.
Punit Anand,Legal Advisor/Counsel
A graduate from Government Law College, Mumbai, he enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1989.Successfully running his own private practice since 1991 with a rooster if corporate and multinational clients, Punit does a lot of pro bono work and joined LOLT as the legal advisor. In 2008, he was invited by founderVilly Doctor to work for the Trust.
Kamal Damania, Project Director
Kamal has been involved in the social sector for the last 25 years. Prior to joining the Life of Life Trust team, Kamal has been instrumental in co-initiating ‘Mel Jol’ a project that made children aware of their rights and ensured that they focused on the Right to Participation and made themselves heard on issues that impacted them.She also worked with the Aga Khan Education Service as project coordinator where she oversaw a huge outreach programme spread over three different states in India.
Currently working as Project Director at LOLT, Kamal works closely with adolescent children and rural communities in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Blessed with a high level of energy and determination,she has dedicated her life to making a positive impact on the lives of the underprivileged.
Lisa Marie De Souza, Manager- Marketing & Communication
A media student from Sophia College, Lisa majored in journalism and did a post graduation degree in events. Recruited by a public relations company, she spent 6 years in the industry working with corporate, lifestyle and entertainment clients. But she always harbored the dream of working with the underprivileged and hopeless animals—a quality instilled in her due to her convent schooling.
Malik Gobrani,Finance Manager
With 14 years in finance, the Trust’s budgets and funds are in the capable hands of Malik, who is also currently pursuing an MBA in finance. His previous work experience includes being a senior accountant at Aga Khan Education Service and a trainee at B.K. Doshi &Co.
Sejal Shah, Manager Marketing
Her education achievements are plenty—a MSC in Food Science and Nutrition and a MBA through correspondence from Indira Gandhi National Open University—but her main motivating factor is her desire to make a difference and give back to society. Her job profile includes working with individual donors to raise funds for the Trust.
